Evaluation

ALBUM FRONT COVER
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions or real media products?

Firstly, the picture featured on the mise en scene is of the main artist. This posed shot is of the artist, dressed in black (with the connotations of night life) portray him to be happy (looking like he's ready to party). I think this is really effect in term of how it reflects on the music content and the music genre. Furthermore the simplicity of it portrays it in a professional manner which is our aim. It’s simple but however eye catching, the red black and white fonts will draw the audience attention to it. After several research into album covers we noticed the typography is constant, therefore, we kept ours the same simply because it portrays professionalism and authentic. On the bottom right, in order main the professional look, we included a parental advisory stamp, warning underage audience of its content and explicit language. this however could been seen as a disadvantage because most parents would not want their children listening to rude music but on the other hand this will cause our main audience which are young adult to purchase the album.
Both oof these album cover have similarities. they both consist of posed shot of the main artist dressed in black. The font used is very simple and consice. Eventhough our artist is wearing glasses they are both looking intot he camera, drawing the audience attention. There's also a background lighting on the artist which is also featured on our album cover.

ALBUM BACK COVER

With the album back cover, i think its a great idea how we had the artist simpling and joyful on the front cover but quiet serious on the back which i believe will cause a controversy amongst the audience because it goes against our music conventions. we wanted to make sure this serious look is visible therefore we decided the song list into twos with similar fonts as we had on the front cover; portraying professionalism. the song title are in bright colours to stand out, catch the audience attention and easily readable.  Similarly to the front cover, this is another posed medium shot, again the artist is wearing black with his hands crossed while staring straight into the camera. All these elements will draw the audience attention.we thought it would be a great idea for him to wear sunglasses because it gives him that celebrity look and it also connotes that the artist have been partying and cant really let their eyes been seen due to their status. In its continuity of professionalism we included a bar code and the production company with contact details on there.
Again, Both of these back album cover consists of  a dark background, both artists wearing sunglasses with their hands interjecting with one another. however, the artist below is not looking into the camera whereas our artist is. Even though the artist below doesn't consist of a barcode ours those. we did this in order to make it more professional.

Promo poster
After creating the front cover and the album back cover, we thought it would be a good idea if we kept the same theme running, keep the same colour scheme but make it more brighter so it really stands out. we chose red because the colour red if often used to draw attention and we noticed this throw the other promo poster we studied. according to our research, this poster had to be provocative, informative. Like the above picture, this is anotherr posed shot but this time, the artist is sitting down with his legs crossed, portraying that "are you ready look", provoking the audience to purchase the album. We kept the typography similar but ever changed the font size. The masthead consist of the artist name in big bold red and black font. It is spread across the page so it stands out. The main artist is on the right hand side of the advert so that the writing flows next to him. This makes an obvious association between the artist and the album advertised. The reader is in no doubt who the advert is advertising. our target audience is a niche audience of Young adult but this may appeal to a mainstream audience due to its content, therefore we thought it would be a good idea to keep the information concise and relevant but persuading at the same time.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? (synergy, cross promotion)

Our media product used a huge variety of development techniques throughout its creation and was made to best specify a real life media product to ensure that our final music video would be viewed by the audience with similar aspects to a real like media product. We analysed and evaluated a number a number of professionally created music videos,  these analysis allowed us to look at the different factors used in any traditional music video in comparison to our videos. Our main product and ancillary texts communication enables us to pursue the artist and interact with the way he is represented as a Dance artist. All three of the promotional packages use a similar colour scheme, which uses different colours . This basic colour scheme allows the images that have been allocated onto our promotional packages to be well visualised for our audience and positions the images as the main focus towards the audience. The images used throughout the digipak all include the main artist of our production(me) posing in a variety of different positions, each image on the digipak also include the artist wearing a hat which represents this style and interacts to the audience about the genre of music that is being presented. Our artist does  wear a hat throughout our music productions, clearly represented as a Dance artist from the clothes he wears and different dancing techniques that our presented. This combination between our main product and ancillary text uses a variety of techniques between the two and use a similar representation to link them together and pursue each other’s ideas and designs.  I feel the visual aspects of our digipak and cover our of a good quality and would appeal well towards a target audience, I feel this appeal has been created from the images based around our promotional produce and also the different design lay outs that have been individually created by us as a group.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

We had a variety of audience feedback. we showed an unfinished rough copy to our tutor, he suggested to feature a variety of different angle shots in order to make it exciting for the viewers. He suggested Close ups of the main artist and extreme close up of the performers feet. Also, he also commented on the fact that our video consisted of different lighting such as artificial and natural lighting. this is due to the fact that we filmed in the studio with studio lighting and outside with natural lighting so we did was neutralise the colours to make it look the same  we took our tutor notes into consideration but we desired more wider feedback so we created a question for the class to answer after watching the music video.  A similar question was destined for album covers and promo poster.

Questionnaire for music video:

1. Do you think this video was successful in promoting the artist?

2. Would this video encourage you to buy the album?

3. Do you think the portrayal of the performers were successful?

4. Did the video have enough variety of shots?

5. Do you feel the shots were edited smoothly?

Questionnaire for advert and album covers:

1. Does this advert and album covers give a true reflection of the music it is promoting?

2. Do these formats inform you about the artist himself?

3. Do you think the colour scheme successfully promotes the artist and the music?

4. Would these products encourage you to buy the album?

5. If you do not normally listen to this type of music would these products encourage you to try it?

After looking at the answered questionnaire, it appears that the aim of the video was accomplished wwhich was to promote the aartist. The editing ran in a chronological order and ran a clearr narrative but however, we had similar constructive criticism to our tutor which was to include a variety of shot such as high and low angle shots. The performers were said to be "extremely good" in terms of how you could see some of the panicking and slightly going of track which is what we wanted to depict.
Also, the album covers and promo poster were highlighted in a positive light. it was said they "love" how we kept the same colour scheme and how we kept it really simple. It is eye catching, informative and they would purchase the album Witt he encouragement of the poster, front and back cover. on the negative side, it was said that these elements had to reflection on our music video which is vibrant and energetic whereas our poster and album covers are dark.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

Throughout the research, planning and evaluation stages of our final product the software used was a very important factor as our ideas could not have been carried out if we did not have it, as we would not have been able to include all the editing through our music video e.g. slit screens, reverse shots, colour change etc. to start our project we used HD cameras which were very beneficial as they were an upgrade to previous cameras that had been used for projects in the past and included a much higher quality of technology and image control. This is a screen shot of me editing our music video on final cut express. it was first time using finale cut so it was confusing at first, after several attempts and trying new things such as playing with the colour scheme and strecthing out the duration of a certain clip, it started to come along and the end result appears successful.

When creating and designing our digipak and poster the technology used for this was photoshop which have us the opportunity to add different elements of design patterns such as fonts and colour schemes. Another positive factor for our use of photoshop was that we had previously used the equipment therefore had skills on how to create our music videos with the complicated options of photoshop.

SCREENSHOT OF PROMO POSTER IN PROGRESS

We used Youtube a great deal in this project in-terms of researching various different videos.

Overall I feel our final product has been a success, I feel the whole structure of the video has been well presented to its audience on what the genre and subjects of the music video are and also feel that the technology have been used to fulfil the entertainment aspects within the video.  If I were to re-produce this music video I feel I may include a number of new locations and shot type just to mix the different factors of romance up a slight more but overall I feel our final product was well designed.

Goodwin analyses of our music vid

1. The video has an easily identifiable dance routine which is characteristic of the genre (dance pop). It has an upbeat tone which is in keeping with the style of music. The performers themselves are upbeat and appear to be having fun and enjoying themselves. This also fits in perfectly with this style of music, which is to be fun and energetic. We meet the artist right at the beginning of the video which again is characteristic of this style music in that although performers are acting out the song the artist himself is orchestrating the whole video.

The relationship between the visual image and the song lyrics is very evident in this video, the performers are all acting out/performing the lyrics of the song. The lyrics determine everything that happens in the video. It is left to the performers themselves to individualise their movements by adding humour etc.

There is also a close connection between the music of the video and the visual image. The dance routine of the performers is in time with the beat of the music and must be so for the video to work.

The artist is obviously the main performer in the video. His image is shown first before the introduction of the other performers and the video constantly returns back to his performing image. The video gives the impression that he is in total control of the other performers as they are performing his lyrics.

The content of this video is open and there is no obvious undertones of exploitation of the female body. This is important because the intention of the video is to be innocent and fun.

The idea of this video largely came from the Nickleback video 'Rockstar' which also used a variety of diverse performers. So indirectly it makes reference to this video which would be known to a large number of those watching the video
