The video is story based, it begins with a medium shot of him in a black car, dressed in a black costume. The color black represents dark, sad and melancholy moment which is what the music is about due to the fact that its an RnB song.
We get a close up of his facial expression of him looking straight into camera, looking sad and on the mise en scene, we see happy couple walking around in slow pace editing and he is all alone, depicting him to be alone and depressed. it also consists of dark low lighting which could be a reflection of his mood.
Some of the visual illustrates his words. i. e. "waiting by the phone" we see people using their phones and another example is "left out in the rain" hence the constant rain. Furthermore, the stormy weather are characterized by emotions and passions. there are constant symbols depicting his emotions towards her, like the dove on the mise en scene which is symbolic for peace which is what he's trying achieve through this song.
The whole video appears to be contradicting because he's the one in the rain and she's in the warmth. she is also wearing red bright colors which is a representation of love.
The story runs in chronological order and it ends with him running home with her.
