Advert analyses Madonnna

This is an advert promoting Madonna's album 'Celebration'. The main focus of the advert is the artist herself, reflecting her icon status. Madonna is in a close-up shot, with lots of miniature images of her from previous years, superimposed on the picture. This shows that she has been a star for many years and has had many changes to her image. She is looking directly at the audience establishing a relationship with the audience. Her head is tilted slightly to the right and she is in a stern pose, which reflects her confidence in her image. The background is dark except the border around her head shot. The shot itself is multicoloured, but the colours are muted so that the small images can easily be identified. The multicoloured effect is eye catching and draws the audiences attention to Madonna's face. Her make-up is very simple but gives emphasis to her pouted lips, this corresponds to the Marilyn Monroe pose that Madonna has adopted on the album cover. Her hair is short but not as feminine as Marilyn Monroe.

The artists name is across the top in the biggest font, the writing is black and in capital letters, in oder to make it stand out. The album title is underneath Madonna's name and is written in pink, it is the same font but in lower case letters. The pink writing gives it a feminine quality and is also eye catching. The writing at the bottom of the advert promotes the album and gives information as to when it can be bought and what it contains. To sizes of writing is used to make it easier to read and '34 songs that changed the world' is in bold'. This is to further conform Madonna's icon status and makes the album appear to be good value.

The light is reflected onto Madonna's face and helps to identify the smaller images. It lightens what could be a very dark advert. The advert wished to make the album appeal to Madonna's fans through the years, this would target a variety of ages as she has been a star for a number of decades.
